I find the Custom 22 honestly perfect for just about all types of Contemporary Praise worship, but it isn't so great for Southern Gospel / Bluegrass. Our Southern Gospel lead stuff sounds WAY better with a Strat or LP. I do love me some LP, but sometimes that signature tone isn't wanted and the Custom 22 really provides a good clear tone with no "hey that's a LP tone" feel.

Also, how many different Strat types have you tried? The issues you have with the 7.25" scale will be less of an issue with the modern 9.5" scale. Another option would e hunting down a 12" radius Strat. The MIJ I have uses that scale and the neck is ridiculously fast and easy to play.
