Good computer for recording/MIDI?

I've been looking at getting my own laptop for a few months now. I'm really not going to buy one very soon, but I just wanted to get used to the range of laptops out there. I would use it for schoolwork (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), recording guitar riffs, and possibly doing extensive songwriting and recording, not to mention using it for a MIDI device. I can afford just about anything except for a new MacBook Pro. Here's the basic requirements that I have:
-At least a 14" display
-At least 2GB of RAM, expandable to 8GB
-At least 200GB of hard drive space
-Processor: at least 2GHz, preferably dual core, Intel
I really don't care what brand I get, but would prefer Apple, Toshiba, HP, Dell, or some other top name brand. I've been looking at Toshiba Satellites and MacBooks lately.

Guitars
Ibanez ARX320 (the best LP copy under $1000, IMO)
Starcaster Strat by Fender (I was told not to get rid of my first guitar)
Ibanez AEF18E (great bright acoustic)

Amps
Line 6 Spider III 75 (use it as a base for pedals)

FX
Line 6 M13 (I take it for granted most of the time)
