Ignoring Jesus' command leads to much strife, stress, ill feelings, jealousy, dishonesty, and hypocrisy in the church. If the first church had obeyed this command, Ananias and Sapphira might not have been tempted into committing the sin that destroyed them.

Perhaps not, but churches still probably can't support themselves financially if their members do not contribute financially.
