New Banjo Day!

My girlfriend is awesome, and got me a new banjo for my birthday!

She got me the cripple creek bluegrass package from Gold Tone, and I'm liking it a lot.

Nice. I just watched Bela Fleck's documentary "Throw Down Your Heart" about a month ago. He takes he banjo to Africa and plays with a bunch of tribes and preformers searching for the origin of the banjo. Very amazing music.

Yeah, I watched a Bela Fleck clip last night, he seems pretty awesome.

But yeah, I'm loving my new toy. Thankfully, I've fiddled with enough open guitar tunings that transferring those skills to the banjo is fairly straight forward. It's fun playing songs I've written on it.

I'd been GAS'ing for a banjo for quite some time (a few years I think). As it turns out I wasn't even the one to buy it. I wonder what I'll GAS for next. Probably an SM57.
