Yes, some dimmer circuits and most CFLs will contribute to the potential for noise with a s/c-equipped guitar.
I had to go back to using incandescent lights in the studio because of the buzz, even w/ the humbucker-equipped guitars.

I just wanted to add that noisless strat pickups have come a LONG LONG way over the last few years. It used to be that they didn't really sound like singlecoils, but some of the models out there right now are phenomenal! Kinmans are very very nice pickups, The Dimarzio Area are amazing and the Seymore Duncan Vintage Noiseless are decent as well. Bill Lawrence makes some excellent models as well that aren't noiseless, but they are designed to minimize noise

I used to use Dimarzio HS-2 and HS-3 pickups and I can't even believe how much they have improved with the new Area series. I've got an Area 57 in the neck and an Area 61 in the middle and they are about the best sounding strat pickups I've ever used and they are dead quiet.

I put the dimarzio are 58's in my neck and middle positions, and an area 61 in my bridge. While having a superb "strat" sound, the pickups are noiseless and I rid my guitar of the hum. There's no difference in this in any room I play in and I tea h guitar in a room full of cfls. Definitely the way to go.

I use a noise gate in my signal chain and it really helps a lot. Hope you find something that works for you. Not a big fan of noisy guitars myself

Looks like Fender has (once again) come out with a new noiseless design: the Super 55. From what I've heard, they will be OEM on the American Deluxe series starting in 2012.

Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.
