Let's debunk the "Streets" multiple delay theory

This guy has always said that the Edge uses multiple delays to achieve his sound. Many of us have disagreed with him, and said that while there may be some slapback of some kind, there's no significant other delay sound. No proof though, and it's hard to tell.

Well, watch this, specifically starting from 4:30. He doesn't explain exactly what he's using (of course), but you hear him in his studio hit his strings, just once. Very clearly just a dotted eighth, judging by the repeats. Let's rest the case here. We don't need waveform analysis ala amnesta.net to figure out what he's using :P

I didn't know about the debate, I always thought it was just one delay.

Can we next solve the problem of excessive copying of his sound?

Haha, not gonna lie, it never gets old with me, at least not if it's done well. :P Stacking different dotted eights (at the same tempo of course :P) sounds mad good, discovered that this week.

When I play the "Edge" sound, I always use two delays: one digital mod set to dotted eighths, another set to short eighths. It really sounds good because the eighths fill the spaces left by the dotted eighths. And BTW, I don't think worship guitarists can stop copying his sound. When they don't, it just sounds awful to my ears. They just all put a little of their own flavor into it.

Guitars
Ibanez ARX320 (the best LP copy under $1000, IMO)
Starcaster Strat by Fender (I was told not to get rid of my first guitar)
Ibanez AEF18E (great bright acoustic)

Amps
Line 6 Spider III 75 (use it as a base for pedals)

FX
Line 6 M13 (I take it for granted most of the time)

Sure they can. It's called better songwriting and exercising creativity.

you know, I may be in the minority, but I HATE the edge's tone. I LOVE delay and stacking it and all that good stuff and I admit he was the one to popularize it but I much prefer it the way nigel droff does it or the guitarist from john mark mcmillian. I can't stand listening to U2 and his tone and if worship guitarists truely sounded like him. Then I would have stopped listening a while ago. sorry if this seems like trolling. :-)

useless rant over, continue discussion.

Yeah, when I play that song, I always use one dotted eighth delay. The whole stereo stacked delay thing is silly. I think the real key is getting the scraping motion with the pick more than a sharp picking sound, and then using that touch of modulation...

And if you want to hear some great guitar playing that isn't all delayed out, just go listen to a great gospel band play.
