Money issue

So guys, for most of us money limit is the only one we know when it comes to gear.

What is the most you guys have spent on gear (or alternatively, what is the most expensive piece of gear you have?
How much would you spend on 1 piece of gear?

I'll start:
The most I've spent for gear is 1430 dollars on my Godin.
I wouldn't spend more than 2k on 1 piece of gear ...

Luckily it is not so important what gear you have, or how expensive it is, but how you play.

I have a ~3k or so Gibson LP Custom and a $2500 Soldano SLO. Honestly, what I want is the factor that defines what I get and frankly, I have played tons of really high end gear and I have what I want.

so far... my guitar was $450 (used)... amp was $240, second guitar was $275 ( will end up at about $700 when it's finished),

I'm still "filling out" my gear selection, though... my next step after finishing this guitar will be an Orange Thunderverb 50 and an Avatar 412 cab... which will run about $2500 all in.

I'm definitely cellar dwelling right now. All my gear isn't worth $1,000. It's good enough.

Eventually I'm going to spend some serious money on a custom built Cotten D18. But not this year, and not next year. Debt is the Enemy and I'm at war.

I think my bass (Fender American Standard Jazz V) is probably my most expensive piece. I could probably get $800-$1000 for it. After that small things just add up. I'd guess my pedal board is worth somewhere around $600-$800 (I worked it out once but can't remember what I concluded). I've got a handful of guitars around here worth anywhere from $100-$350.

As far as spending goes...I don't know that I have an upper limit for what I'd be willing to spend. Given my situation, I try to keep things modest without feeling like I'm going cheap. Unfortunately, that means that my current instrument goal is another Fender Am.Standard Jazz. There was one at GC recently with a used tag for $700. If I didn't mind a few months of extra credit card bills, it would be mine already.

$400 for my new acoustic. I've just spent $360 ordering a Zoom G3 and expression pedal (including postage). Both of the electrics I've bought have been about $300.

I buy professional-grade gear, because I do professional work with my instruments.

That said, I will usually only spend in the $500-1K range for any single thing, because that's really the price range that most of the gear that I dig is in (I always buy used). You can get any number of fantastic American made instruments and amps in that range, no problem.

Truth. The level of money I spend on instruments and equipment corresponds to my level of playing: Fairly low volume in my apartment by myself.

I spent a bit over $600 on my Vox with tax...I'm not sure if I have a set ceiling on how much I want to spend. I know I eventually want to get a handwired AC15 with an alnico blue so that's $1500 there, and I'm thinking most of my guitars here on out are probably gonna be built from parts and probably under $800 or so.

I refuse to answer this question on a public forum that is accessible by my wife and by the IRS.

Even though I can afford a lot better than I have, I don't think high end gear is a necessity. I am an electronic engineer and prefer to find older stuff in need of repair where I can get a great deal. I recently restored an '82 Peavey MKIV bass head to include new tolex and grill. My favorite guitar is an 82 Peavey T25 that I installed a strat tremelo in. My 84 Predator recently underwent a professional overhaul. I just sold a 95 MIM Strat that I had modded everything that wasn't made of wood. New pups, tuners, bridge, everything but the body, neck and jack plate. Still couldn't get that "feeling" so I had to let it go. My #2 bass, a Peavey Fury V, was purchased inoperable from Guitar Center for $50. Its a shame that all I had to do to repair it was replace the battery.
