I know that's a very different sound, but I want to be able to push enough to at least have a sound that makes sense in that context. Nothing (or very little) in the world of what would be called heavy though.
Probably should have listened to the video posted. Yeah, a DS-1 won't get you close to that territory.

I don't know any other pedals that would sound like that. I'm pretty dirt-box stupid. I use my amp for most dirty tones.

The attenuator would be a good choice...but only if you can get the amount of gain that you want out of it without anything pushing it in the first place.

Well I went to GC last night and came home with an MXR classic overdrive. It does what I need and it was only $40 (though apparently, people have gotten them for $30, oh well). I tried out a boost too (from BBE, I think it was), and it was nice, but not quite as versatile as having the OD, and since I'm only planning to buy the one pedal for now, the OD was the choice.

Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny . . . consume you it will . . .

I've heard good things about the classic overdrive, one of my friends has one in front of his classic 30, and it sounds great!
