| Alleged serial arsonist steals flags, burns them This is from our local rag. Quote:
Ahmad Khaled, 25, of 2114 Shreveport Highway, Apt. 270, Pineville, was arrested on Sunday by Alexandria Police officers and accused of the flag burnings. He was charged with five counts each of simple arson, flag desecration and hate crime, and one count each of criminal mischief and attempted simple arson.
Alexandria Police Sgt. Bruce Fairbanks said Khaled was charged with a hate crime under Louisiana Revised Statute 14:107.2.
"It is believed that he chose his victims because of perceived national origin," Fairbanks said.
Khaled "admitted a misdemeanor theft, he stole a flag, and set (the flag) on fire, which is misdemeanor arson. The case is still under investigation."
[...]
"Police said when (Khaled) brought (the flag) down, he doused the flag with gas, lit the flag and brought the flag back to the top of the pole."
Mayeux was notified on Sunday that a suspect was arrested and charged with the flag burnings.
"Detectives said there were seven incidents involving flag burnings. The guy felt like he has been offended by the national anthem and American flag ...," Mayeux said.
"Detectives said they caught him with gasoline, prayer rug and compass to align with the east, so Allah would hear him when he was doing those things. People's homes were in danger of being burned."
