| Curiosity: Atlantis Uncovered I just saw the intro to this TV series and "John Locke" (from "Lost" TV series) is hosting the show which links Plato's account of Atlantis with subterranean archaeology and the latest research on geology and history to answer the questions: is Atlantlis real and if so, what brought about its end?
So do you think it's real and if so, what ended it?
Even though I've never researched this before but I would tend to lean towards a fictional work inspired by true events(?). I know that kinda seems oxymoronic.

| Considering that some of the more ancient parts of Alexandria are underwater, and that there are plenty of other less well-known ancient cities that have been slowly swallowed by tectonic shift (or like Helike, which was out and out swallowed by the sea following an earthquake), I wouldn't surprised if they found something.

| this whole scene has always held fascination for me - ie. Lock Ness, Atlantis, etc. the old show In Search Of was in high rotation in my house growing up.
I say why not? like Modern said, there are so many cities that have wound up under water. I'm sure there may be some level of hype or exaggeration to the story, ie. that it was super technologically advanced and what not, but beneath all that, I say why not? it's not all that improbable that a plate could shift or a typhoon or something could swallow up an island or coastal city. some keep wondering when the "big one" hits the west coast, if some of those cities will go the same way.
sadly I missed John Lock's show though I may have to find it now. I love watching underwater archaeology shows, find them fascinating. |

Oral traditions and a premodern worldview shape things accordingly. But I think that it is definitely a possibility that it existed in some form.

| In a thousand years archaeologists will have programs about the lost city of New Orleans and how their primary surviving account of it is Arlo Guthrie's "City of New Orleans". |
