DIY pedalboard

I made a pedal board two years ago out of a piece of wood that I think used to be part of a chest of drawers, with an offcut of cream carpet, nails and some pads for feet, but it's a bit heavy and there is no reason for the carpet as the Velcro I used doesn't stick to the carpet.

So I thought I would adapt the Pedaltrain idea using one of these: http://www.argos.co.uk/m/static/Prod...er/8280626.htm

Anyone else used a duckboard as a makeshift pedalboard? I just don't have £100 to spend on a board...

Could totally work.

There was an IKEA shelf that made a great pedalboard - sadly, I think they've discontinued it, but it was fairly similar to what you're looking at.

If you need inspiration, check out this thread at TDPRI.

Building a pedalboard is pretty easy, and generally a lot cheaper than buying one. The only real issue is finding a case that works. I built this myself:

And loaded:

Total cost was about $60, half of which was the industrial-strength velcro. I built it with a rack in the gap between the first and second tiers so that I could rack my old Symetrix compressor in there. Worked like a charm, but it was big and heavy. I hauled it around in a rolling suitcase.

I picked up a suitcase from a local thrift store and hacked away at it till I was happy. I've made about 4 or 5, and two other guitarists at my church are now using my old ones.

Just find a suit case with a shallow side and a deep enough side to let all your pedals fit, height wise, in addition to a piece of plywood. Carefully remove the hinges and order some detachable hinges to replace them. I use auto upholstery carpet glued and stapled to the plywood and it seems to be a bit better than most carpets. If you're handy you can actually have a really stable setup that doesn't need a carry case because it is one.

Homemade pedalboards are the best. I made one inspired by the IKEA Gorm pedalboards. I think IKEA does still sell the Gorm, but it was easier for me to pick up some 2x1s and 1x1s at the local hardware store and build one myself. Mine is the size of a pedaltrain mini, but it should be fairly easy to make it any size you want. The local dollar store sells strips of stick on velcro which work great, so the total cost was under $10.

all great ideas, thanks. Telecasting, I think you'd be wise to check out IKEA rather than Argos - I'd take a bet Argos' pine products aren't very rigid or strong...
