Definitely not an easy situation to be in, but if it could work, I'd encourage going that route. I'd also talk to the college she'd be looking at and explain the situation. They might be more amicable towards working with you both so she doesn't have to retake classes as well- you'd have to sit down in person and discuss it though.
Another question is would tuition drop because of the change in Fafsa and filing status. My wife's last year of education was MUCH cheaper owing to the fact that her dad made a lot of money and we did not.

interesting point, not that marrying for it is a good reason, but if you aren't both making big bucks, there are some pretty good financial benefits to marriage from a tax perspective.
