Dog Must-haves

Ok, so my wife and I have agreed to adopt a stray dog my brother found wandering in the street. What essentials should we buy for the home? We're on a very tight budget, considering how much we'll be paying for heartworm treatment and pet deposit for the apartment. I don't know much about the dog, it's female, about 25 lbs, mutt. According to my brother, she's playful, but not very hyper.

According to the Vet, less than a year. She's been at my brother's house the last few days. He describes her as playful, but not hyper, and apparently already housebroken.

Personally I would say a crate is kind of a must. Dogs like having a den to sleep in at the least. Food bowl, water dish, good food. Is she a chewer?

I second the crate ... Even if she seems to be house broken it will help get her on a schedule and routine of going outside to do the business. It's certainly helped my wife and I with our schnauzer. As soon as we wake up we take her out.

Everyone thinks she's the cutest thing on the planet. She has a little too much energy for our apartment, which is one reason we're buying a house next month.

Oh, and if you don't feed her, she climbs up on either the kitchen table or the kitchen counter and feeds herself whatever is handy.

ha, I could see how most might find that annoying but my honest reaction was to literally laugh outloud, and then say "Awww...."

There wasn't even food on the table at that point.
