Transposing Music

just borrowed this handy little picture from Rainer in another thread.

I play trumpet which is a Bb instrument and also paly alto sax which is in Eb/
so normally when i play at church i either play by ear or sit down and suss it out.

using this picture, for the trumpet i add 2 sharps to whatever key the band is in or i add 3 sharps if im playing alto.

Transposing Music

This is because the clarinet is a transposing instrument . The music for transposing instruments is not written or read at concert pitch.

Ahh, yes, the Circle of Fifths. Looks just like the chart from my music theory book from college. Learn it, live it, love it!

In the same vein of transposing music.............
Here's an interactive transposition wheel that you can use online or do like I did and print one out, laminate it, and put a pop rivet in the center. Voilla! you have a transposition wheel for your guitar case!
I've had many requests to make one for other people.
Memorizing the circle of fifths is tough... I'll print it out.
Thanks for the pic Dogfood!
