We (the Role Modlins) are doing the Gulf Coast next year. It's been over two years since we moved back to NC and we have regretted it ever since. We plan to stay in Slidell for about a week so we can hit both Pearlington, MS and The Big Easy.

Last time I had my family in N O we had dinner at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Factory. It's actually somewhat of a chain I think and I can't speak for all of them but the one in N O is top notch. A little bit of sticker shock when we looked at the prices, but the waitress said they are big portions and perhaps we wanted to just share a few items. We did that. We left full. We spent about $70.00 for a family of five and thought it was money well spent. The help comes around and gives you trivia quiz's on Forrest Gump and in general just creates a fun and entertaining atmosphere. The food was awesome. I highly recommend trying this for anyone visiting.

I have eaten there. It was okay. The little hole-in-the-wall places are better though.

Lee, I would agree with you about the little hole in the wall places. Bubba Gumps gets my endorsement mostly for the ability to be very memorable. Only 2-3 things every really stand out about any vacation years down the road, and my family still talks about Bubba Gumps and it's been a while now.

I enjoyed their food...although it was a bit pricy. The place has atmosphere and it isn't somewhere you'd be afraid to go after dark. Very family-friendly and accessible.

The one thing I did enjoy was the overwhelming number of "Mom and Pop" Po-Boy joints.
