| Collar Bomb in Australia.... Really freaky - this girl had a collar bomb around her neck for about 10 hours. They didn't establish no explosives in it until after they had it off her. Looks like some sort of threatening/extortion attempt but no one is to sure yet. As the hours ticked by and cold set in, Maddie never lost her poise
Again it shows how quick the news cycle is - the first public reports were within a few hours of the start of the incident and while it was still going.
Poor girl though - how stressful would that be! |

| I didn't see any thing in the article about what the guy was after except "it didn't seem to be about money". It will be interesting if they release the contents of the pen drive. I have to admit, the thought occurred to me that this could be some type of hoax or prank. I hope that's not the case because it sounds like a ton of resources were expended here, not to mention all the stress on everyone involved. |

| You know what...the more I read that story...the more it reminds me of a movie I saw once. It was one of those "true crime" made-for-TV deals. In it...a bank employee was kidnapped and forced to wear a fake bomb while the criminals robbed the bank.
I can't remember the name of it now.
***EDIT***
Found it...it wasn't a movie...it was an actual news story. However...the same idea has been used on Law & Order and Criminal Minds. http://abcnews.go.com/US/bank-americ...ry?id=11718996 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_W...bank_robber%29 |

| The first thought I had was, "Jigsaw's back!", followed by, "It's an attention-seeking prank". I haven't followed it closely enough to determine if it's a hoax or not, but if it's real, that's pretty intense.

Maybe some of them at least in part perpetrated by the "victim"? |

| It surprised me that this was a common enough occurrence to have a name. I think if it were about some manifesto or something (guessing because of the thumb drive mention in the article) that this might just be the most perfect possible handling of a case like this, presuming the facts are all right.
In short, I really hope the girl is alright and the perpetrator/s will be caught.

Not all had real bombs...but the victims usually believed they were. The man in the wikipedia article I linked was actually blown up.
Nasty way to go. |
