Question about recurring malware/virus and making a recovery disc or something

Hey all. My laptop is repeatedly (like once a month) coming down with a virus/malware thingy that calls itself "Vista Security 2011". I'm sick of cleaning the stupid thing off. It takes all day. Anyway, I figure that it must be hiding somewhere on the computer that neither McAfee nor any of the other utilities I'm using can find, so I want to see if I can restore the system. Unfortunately, I don't have a recovery disc. How could I do this?

That's the website I've used to remove it manually about 8 times - I need a solution to keep it from recurring; I was hoping there was a way within Windows to restore the original state of the computer.

What brand is the computer? You should be able to ask their technical support about how to do a restore.

Have you tried turning off system recovery after getting rid of it? an easy place for these buggers to hide is in the system restore point. I would promptly turn it back on once you ditch all restore points, in case of disaster.

1. Turn on hidden files/folders
2. Go to Safe Mode
3. C:\Users\[user]\AppData\Roaming (try Local, too)
4. Find exe (usually some gibberish)
5. Rename

If.you have full functionality after this, delete the file
