Technique question

Hey 'erebody

For me, this is an odd question to be asking because this
isn't really my genre of music, but I'll ask anyway.

I don't know if anyone has ever heard of this band, but my
brother used to listen to them when I was young, and I hadn't
heard this song in years until today.
‪Gryp-Heal me back‬‏ - YouTube

At about 26 seconds into the video, there's this guitar riff, and
I have no idea how to make such a noise with a guitar, but I would like to!

Can anyone help?

My guess is a combination of distortion, pinch harmonics, and wah, but I could be wrong.

Probably close.

I'd try choking up on my pick, kind of hammering each note while picking it very sharply.... of course with copious amounts of distortion.

I don't know if anyone else hears this but along with the distorion and wah (i can def. hear those) I can almost hear the guitar feeding back on itself helping give that screech effect. I looked up a picture of the guitarist who played a three pickup ibanez. I'd say if anything he was probably using that middle pickup to get even more "screech" out of it. I think the screechy ness sounds cool making it sound kind of like an old garage band where you always have the to stand too close to your too loud amp. I'd play with some feedback along with the other suggestions. Of course this is just my idea in the last minute so I could be TOTALLY off.

Those are just unison bends with wah and a distortion.

‪Gryp Heal Me Back Tutorial‬‏ - YouTube

Quick YouTube tutorial, hope it helps, I didn't have a wah, but it'd be on there, too.

I think that is just how it is done. Hendrix used to bend two notes out of tune with each other to cause that oscillating tension. It kind of screams at you

It sounds like a unison bend with distortion and wah...very similar to what Rainer described but I believe he/she adds a slight vibrato to the note bending to the same tone as the first string. The artist may go as far as bouncing back and forth between the 21 and 22 fret. You'll just have to experiment. You can do lots of different sounds with the wah...I love the wah...
