DIY = HUGE $AVING$ !!!

There are many reasons one may choose to take on a Do It Yourself project. For some it might be a question of artistic or structural license. They may want a custom version of an existing product. They might just not be happy with the range or design of current production items. Unfortunately quality takes back seat priority in a lot of today's products. The phrase "they don't make em like they used to" applies here.

For me this is the case certainly but above all price is the factor that most influences my decision to Do It Myself. I'm a guitar player so I would rather spend my hard earned cash on things that will improve the quality of or diversify my guitar tone. Take for example road cases. Guitar players spend a lot of money on equipment and what guitar player doesn't want to protect it? I could have spent $375 on a case for one of my 4x12 Marshall cabs but instead I built one for about $80! That gives me about $300 to put towards my next strat or LesPaul. Or maybe I didn't have the extra $300 in the first place ..... But in the end I still had a case for my Marshall. I've got plenty other examples but the point is DIY = HUGE SAVINGS!!!

Does any one else out there have a DIY example? Tell us about it. Heck start a new thread telling us how you did it. That way we might get ideas to do it too... I know I'd like some more ideas. Also many times I find that when I do it myself I do a better job and get better quality than some one whose just churning this stuff out on some assembly line somewhere.

It doesn't matter what it is ... DIY pedals, amps, cases, speaker cabs, crochet'd mittens ... I'd be very interested to hear about it!!!

My DIY guitar, bass, mandolin.

Yes, there were huge savings. I also have the pride associated with building something myself. Probally about 90 % of the things I do are DIY. Everything from guitar builds to home repairs. I also do most of the repairs on my automobiles. I have one in need of a new air conditioning compressor right now. My wife got an estimate of $600 minimum to do the work. She got another estimate for parts of $200. You do the math. I do my own plumbing, electrical, carpentry, tree removal, I installed a pool last week. I've painted my own vehicles in the past. I've repaired holes in drywall in my house, installed ceiling fans, repaired broken windows (glass). I recently put a new roof on my home.

Every time I see one of your instruments...I drool.

Seriously. That Tele-bass is incredible.

Roscoe .... Those instruments are Amazazing!!!! I especially love the pickguards : )

I know what you mean about the pride / personal satisfaction. My last project (the RI twin head cab) was originally going to get sold but after putting my heart and hard work into it I've decided I like it to much to sell it.
