What's funny is that I already had the chance to own my dream amps but I ended up selling them both:

A Matchless Clubman '35, and a Bad Cat Black Cat

They were awesome, but I couldn't be happier with my AC30HW2 and I don't regret selling either one.

Those amps are nice! Creamy overdrive especially with some alnico speakers.

I've got the ac30hh head version and I built a custom 2x12 that you can see on the building cabs thread in the DIY forum. I loaded it with webber speakers ... One alnico blue dog and one alnico silver bell.

I guess I'm weird, but I discovered that I actually like the Greenbacks better than the blues

I have no idea what my "dream amp" would be... though right now if I could have any amp rig it'd look like this:

a 3 way amp selector with the following:

Acoustic Control Corp 150 combo, used primarily for cleans and specialty uses on certain songs
1975 AC30TBX with Celestion Alnico blues with all but the normal channel removed, primarily for medium gain and general use situations
Bogner Fish preamp into a Mesa 50/50 into a custom 410 cabinet with Weber Alnico Texas speakers.

Current Rig:
Guitars: The NightShade, Ibanez Artcore AG-85, Rogue ST-4 (and not ashamed of it)
Pedals: Dunlop Crybaby -> BYOC Lazy Sprocket -> SBN Soviet Power Booster -> SBN Modded Ibanez TS7 Tube Screamer -> Danelectro Cool Cat Fuzz -> SBN Discombobulamodulator -> Modded EHX Nano Small Clone -> Korg Pitchblack Tuner.
Amps: Vox Night Train, B52 AT-100
Cabs: Peavey 412 Slanted Cab and B52 AT-100 Combo Cab (sometimes connected to the Night Train).

Yes!!! I agree! Greenbacks have ceramic magnets as opposed to the normal alnico used on the blues. Ceramic magnets produce that more edgy biting tone that I crave.

As a stand alone amp I prefer the Vox paired with one of my 4x12 Marshall cabs to get that tone. In a grouping of amps my Marshall JMP's take care of that growling rock tone while the Vox paired with the alnico cab becomes another tone option at my feet via my amp switchers. It's also a good combination when used in conjunction with the Marshals.

I've learned that whatsoever state I'm in to be content .....

That said, after reading more and more posts on the CGR forum there are a few amps I'd love to try out and possibly consider swapping ...

Blackface deluxe reverb
Matchless lightning or other
Soldano amps
Fish pre amp
Any number of low wattage boutique amps ... And the list goes on ...

I'm going to throw out that as long as you are talking a good amp that matches your basic requirements, the longer you spend with them, the more you like them.

I'm always talking about good amps. There's amps I've bought that were good but not great. One example is a Marshall 6100 head I had for a while. It sounded good and had a pretty wide range of tone but I felt that some of the other amps I had sounded better for certain tones I was using the 6100 for. I sold it and bought my 67 twin which ended being better than my RI twin for clean tones. I'm not really able to form an opinion on an amp until I've owned it for a while and used it in different situations to see how it feels.

My basic requirements could be characterized as a search for amps that either sound better than something I already have or widen my tone options.

This requirement is deeply rooted in my own opinion and usually ends in me selling the amp I tried or selling the amp it replaces. Coincidently, eBay is a good tool for the exercise and I generally am able to "swap" amps in such a way that I don't have pour tons of money into my habit.

In 1987 I purchased a new 2553 Marshall Silver Jubilee for about $600.00. After years of searching for something better, I ended up with a 2550 Silver Jubilee as a spare.
