| The OFFICIAL Battle of the 00's Thread All right, we've fancy-footed around this for a long time now (even before the decade was actually over), and I think it's high time we actually did it... especially since this forum has been extra-dead lately.
bread man and I have agreed on a format that we think will work well for everyone. Rather than the bracketed tournament-style battles, we're adopting a simpler approach. As fun as those tournaments were, they are a LOT of work to put on and there's always a ton of complaining over albums that didn't make the cut (and some of them that did). Here are the rules for this battle:
Participants will post a list of their top 25 albums from the 00's. For clarity's sake, these are albums that were released from 2000-2009 (when in doubt, go with the American release date. Sorry, foreigners). I know many of you were clamoring for bigger lists, but bread man and I both feel that a list of 25 will cause people to think harder and prioritize their favorite albums without having to pad with mediocre albums to reach 50 or 100.
There will be a thread up in the next several days for posting your lists. That thread will ONLY be for lists. There will be a separate thread for discussion of the lists.
Scoring will work as follows:
The #1 album from each list will receive 5 points.
The #2 album will receive 4 points.
#3: 3 points
#4: 2 points
#5-#25: 1 point each
bread man or I will tally up the scores and post an aggregate list that will represent CGR's Best Albums of the 2000's.
There are no standard criteria for creating your list. You may use whatever standards you like to prioritize your albums.
The list thread will be open for at least one week... perhaps two. We'll see how things go and what kind of interest this thing generates.
So... start putting together your lists! The threads will be up in a few days. If you have musically-minded friends who don't frequent this forum, steer them this way. We'd like as much participation as we can get.
Any questions? Ask them in this thread. Have a great day! And stay classy, CGR. |

| I also am pleased and excited. I hope we can get adequate participation, though... |

| I think 25 is way too much. Honestly, I don't even own 25 albums from 00 to 2009...
Cursive - The Ugly Organ
Thrice - The Artist in the Ambulance
Thrice - Vheissu
Thrice - Alchemy Index
Five Iron Frenzy 2: Electric Boogaloo
Them Crooked Vultures - Them Crooked Vultures
Panic At the Disco: Pretty. Odd.
Modest Mouse: The Moon and Antarctica
Justin Timberlake: Future Sex/Love Sounds
Underoath: They're Only Chasing Safety
There's 10, that's about all I could muster up. The naughts were a pretty junky decade musically.

| 1. The Mars Volta- Octahedron
2. The (International) Noise Conspiracy- Survival Sickness
3. Thrice- Beggars
4. At the Drive-In- Relationship of Command
5. Queens of the Stone Age- Songs For the Deaf
6. The White Stripes- Elephant
7. The Bronx- III
8. Sea Wolf- Leaves In the River
9. Weezer- The Red Album
10. Nine Inch Nails- Year Zero
11. The Civil Wars- Barton Hollow
12. Cold War Kids- Hang Me Up To Dry
13. St. Vincent- Marry Me
14. Mumford and Sons- Sigh No More
that's seriously all I got... maybe I don't listen to enough music. I feel like half of those bands could have several albums on the list but decided to keep it one album per.

| Will you count lists with fewer than 25 items?
I could easily think up 25 albums, but I really only want to include albums that I would rank a 10 out of 10, and I don't think I could think up 25 of those from any single decade.

| Yes, lists of less than 25 albums will be counted, using the same scoring guidelines above. If you want to do just a top ten or whatever, that's fine. |

| I think it's interesting that people are thinking 25 is too much, because when this discussion happened several years ago, the organizers wanted it to be a top 50 or 100 albums list. haha. |

I'm sitting at eleven right now and have several more that I'm considering. My problem is the ranking...I haven't been comfortable elevating one above all the others...yet. |

| Just to check, is this the official thread for sharing our lists? Or will that be a separate thread? |

| I, on the other hand, found my earlier list of 150, and am slowly going to attempt to whittle it down. |
