The main point for me was less cable running all over the place. Can't do it right now, as I have an 18v pedal, but I'm always looking for ways to tidy up, without dropping a lot of penny.
Anyways, I've successfully derailed another thread. I don't think I've ever gone to see any worship bands live, so I'm not of much help. Although, I do live less than 10 miles away from where Jesus Culture's church, so I could always go snap a photo. I don't really want to, though. |

| Just a quick thought regarding some earlier discussion in this thread:
Large pedalboards of course aren't a worship-scene novelty. Consider Nels Cline of Wilco. His board is just as big as anyone's:
Yet, listening to Wilco, you wouldn't think there was an over-reliance on the effects because, at least IMO, he knows what he's doing with them. The effects contribute to, not control, the overall music.
Effects are all just tools. Nothing more. Either you know how to use them or you don't, both in terms of functionality and tastefulness. No matter what's going on in the worship scene, it shouldn't really matter how many a given guitarist has. It seems the appropriate test should be whether or not they know how to use them. |

I play on sundays with a board of about this size, and while it might seem overkill for a church of 200-250 tops, I know how to use all of it. I have a lot of 'always on', and I layer a lot of overdrives to achieve a thicker sound. At any given point, I usually have 3-5 gain stages on, plus a buffer, slapback delay, and compressor. That's at least 6-8 pedals on at all times, but no one notices, cause they're really just there to shape my tone, not do anything wacky. There isn't a single thing on the board that I don't put to good use every sunday

| multiple delays are a necessity if you are trying to get any kind of decent swell tone. And Drive pedals, they where meant to be stacked IMO |

Add my amps reverb and my pitch-shifted "octo" verb, and that's some serious ambience/shimmer right there....
