However, I will say that I can't think of any Christian artists that take their eyeliner and stage dress to the same extreme. Musically I don't feel like they're so different from bands like Underoath (though Underoath is heavier, IMO). Hopefully someone who is more familiar with the scene as a whole will chime in with more suggestions. |

| most "screamo" is now starting to be considered post hardcore, and in many ways, they are very similar. Emery is considered one of the most popular post hardcore bands. Other ones that I can think of are Oh Sleeper, Norma Jean, As Cities Burn (only their first album has screaming in it, however, and I don't prefer it over their other two albums., which don't have actual screaming), mewithoutyou's early stuff is post hardcore/screamo, and Underoath is just plain screamo. Look at artists under the Tooth and Nail and Solid State labels to find a TON.
OH also check out Thera on facebook (may take some digging, however). They are a screamo/post hardcore band with a female clean vocalist and two guitarists that scream and sing. They are out of Anchorage, Alaska, and they are REALLY good. met them in concert when I discovered them.

| I honestly think screamo was over by the early 2000s... Now all the bands that get automatically labeled as such are like either metalcore or post-hardcore or something.... as far as I know, *true* screamo was stuff like Orchid, Blood Brothers, Circle Takes the Square, etc. You start adding those "bone-crushing" distorted guitar riffs and double-bass breakdowns, it stops being screamo.

Those bands would be Heroine, Portraits of Past, and Swing Kids.
to the OP:
The REAL question here is what your student calls "screamo". It's a term that has almost lost meaning because there's not really anything around these days that sound like the bands that coined the term.
