He is a friend of mine and after reading all the posts I am very disappointed in your forum mods. I can't believe the amount of bias self interest it would take to ban someone for this post..... The people running these forums should be ashamed. Have fun not being able to discuss hot topics here.

-Jim | Well to be perfectly honest, at least to me, he reeked of troll...

-Jim | I can't speak for the mods as a whole or this particular instance, but I do know that often when someone gets banned it's not for their behavior in a thread but their tone and approach to forum administration outside of the thread.
EDIT: To add to this, we discuss hot topics here all of the time. What we don't do is insist our point of view is the only correct point of view or that our position should be added to the canon of Scripture.

But, it might not be the whole picture. Obviously, I don't know the details of this listing; there can be a wide range in the specifics.
The church where I grew up in Jacksonville paid a seemingly small salary to our pastor. OTOH, the church provided a nice home for the pastor (including paying the electric bill, the water bill, etc.), bought him a car and paid insurance and upkeep, paid him a clothing allowance, let his kids attend the church school tuition-free, etc.
Sometimes salary isn't the whole story. | But it usually is a major part of the story. FWIW, that was the end of the story here. Like I said, I knew two people who applied and I asked if there was some super secret benefit and the answer was no.
However, parsonages are really a raw deal as well a lot of the time. Yeah, they cut expenses, but if you lose your job, you lose your home. If something goes wrong it can be a headache to get the plumbing fixed, etc. Also, generally while well meaning, they tend to be rather difficult to keep maintained, and when things go wrong, you get conflicts of responsibility. My good friend whose salary got halved lived in a parsonage, and frankly, he had to call me a few times to help with his wiring on the dl because whether the outlets should be fixed was causing a controversy.

-Jim | Being as your IP is almost identical I highly suspect you are one and the same. Trolls routinely come back as a disappointed friend and really it is quite sad.
The truth is, wild accusations and lies are what got the guyy banned. I think I have been rather plainly honest that currently I am not employed by a church, (actually, I am retooling my career path in college courses right now without closing any doors.) and am currently looking for a church to attend. Yet people were accused of being overpaid church employees who were lying to hide their greed. That kind of lying nonsense isn't being tolerated around here.

I've looked back through Cotten's posts in this and in the original thread, and I didn't notice any wild accusations from him about people lying to hide their greed.
Naturally, I didn't see every post in real time and there was probably a day or so when I didn't check these two threads, so I could easily have missed something.
I'm not defending anyone or questioning the decision; just trying to understand what transpired.

I'm not defending anyone or questioning the decision; just trying to understand what transpired. | That was in some rather odd PM's actually. But it was the reason.

| Ah ha. That makes more sense. Thanks for clarifying.
BTW, what are you "re-tooling" in your college courses? Considering a life as a full-time luthier, perhaps?

| Wow I had to see it for myself, I'm at the same IP because I'm sitting right next to him and reading the comments while getting both sides of the story it looks like you sir are the only one lying here. By the way you said you have an underpaid pastor living with you which makes you extremely one sided regarding the entire argument.
Without a doubt you should restore the account, recuse yourself of forum mod and apologize for your obvious childishness. That's assuming you want to do the right thing here. |

That's assuming you want to do the right thing here. | I'm not saying he should post the PMs, but I have no doubt that the attacking PMs exist. Of course, yes I'm biased. I'm taking the word of someone who I've interacted with over the last 10 years vs. two people who have primarily used their interaction time with the forum in order to attack its members.
If your friend claims he PMd something different or charges that the PMs don't exist, I'd think it questionable, but would leave it at that. When you judge an entire forum on a he said/she said issue without actually taking in the forum as a whole and in turn state that an account should be restored and that an admin should resign, it's really hard to take anything you say seriously.

Have a nice day, and may we handle ourselves in the future with more love and understanding. |
