One week update: well, after owning the Miata for a week we are still extremely pleased with our purchase.
I've been doing a LOT of detailing to it, trying to rid the car of the horrid cigarette small that permeates it. Lots of Fabreze...

I've also gutted the sound system. Come to find out that the car appears to be an original radio delete, so the aftermarket Pioneer Super Tuner am/fm/cassette is now history as are the Realistic 6 1/2" door speakers and the original 3" oval headrest speakers. All of the speakers were rotted and the original wiring harness was cut into, but I can make sense of it all to repair it.
I've got new speakers on order and may be buying a new Pioneer am/fm/cd unit IF it fits in the dash. I'll find out once the dash install kit arrives.

This week: new plugs, plug wires, air filter, belts, trans tunnel boot/insulator, visor delete plugs and 14" chrome trim rings all get installed. I'll probably order a timing belt kit, too, as it will need to be changed soon enough.
