The Thing (2011)

This will be a prequel to the 1982 version, which I really liked.

A trailer I just saw made it sound (the original theme score), look (infrastructures, clothes, environment) and feel similar (or tense) to the atmosphere and mood of the original. The cast is a few solid actors(?) directedy by a fairly unknown director, Matthijs van Heijningen Jr.. I think the movie is in the same universe as Carpenter's version but will contain "many" subtitles. However, I'm not sure if it was mostly filmed in English or European language or subtitles, depending on which scene and actors there were.

I will definitely see this prequel more out of curiosity than expectations of it being as good as the '82 version, not that I expect it to be but I think it should be interesting to visually see how "the beginning" panned out.

Quote:
The Thing is an upcoming science fiction horror film directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr., written by Eric Heisserer, and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Joel Edgerton in the lead roles. It is a prequel to the 1982 John Carpenter film of the same name. Matthijs's film will take place right before the first film, with the original Norwegian crew that discovered the alien.

PLOT: Taking place three days before the events of the John Carpenter film, Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) and her two assistants Davida Morris (Davetta Sherwood) and Adam Goodman (Eric Christian Olsen) join a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across a crashed extraterrestrial spaceship buried in the ice of Antarctica. They discover a creature that seems to have died in the crash eons ago.

When an experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate, Adam and Davida join the crew's pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them and imitating them one at a time, using its ability to perfectly mimic any lifeform it absorbs through digestion, and eventually reaching civilization.

From what I could make out from the preview, the alien sort of looked like some sort of arachnid (5-10 feet) and almost resembles the "Alien" creature but I could be way off since there no clear full view of it. Also, there was this one scene where it had seemed to acquire its target/victim from 10-20 feet via long arms or tentacles (???). Another scene displayed a woman's abdomen being "torn" open by the alien host inside and tentacles 'squirmed' its way out. Unfortunately, this is all from what I can vaguely remember so take it with a grain of salt.

If anyone knows where I can find this trailer and a better view of the alien please post it here if possible. I'm curious.
