JW:

Well, a lot of African American men wear the zircona (spelling?) ear studs, anyway.

So, gauged ones are more suitable for a b-day gift to a guy? Like, 14- or 16-gauge, you mean, just a little thicker than the usual 18- or 20-gauge that ladies wear?

Actually, when you get your ear pierced nowadays, you are pierced with an 18 g. And the difference between 18 and 16 is so small, there might as well not be a difference. What I think Josey Wales was refering to as "gauged" is an ear stretched to a 2g and up to an inch, or more if you're insane.

Oh, well, I see.

I'll have to think about that.

(Later: )

So do you guys - or Josey at least - mean: to an 18 year old who is getting birthday earrings, give him only ones that are gauged down to or approaching 2g, so that this sends him a signal that it's preferable for him to start gauging down to there, if he hasn't started already?

Like because it's really preferable?
.........
Plus, any other gift ideas?

Re Bible option; I like the King James, actually.

Seems that various other versions are liked for while, maybe decades, then something else is issued.

Meanwhile the popular King James goes on and on.

It's available in all sorts of formats, too, some very suitable for a gift.
