Instead of spending $50k on gear, take a year (or two) off work and practice 8 hours a day. You'll sound way, WAY better.
my employees & clients might object to that...

The point was just that if you want to spend $50k to improve your sound, the best way to spend it is on buying time (and possibly training). Buying gear is the worst way to spend it.

I'm pretty happy with all of my current axes, but I'd probably compliment the family w/ another Tele and maybe a Tyler Strat...maybe a Gibson 336 or 339.
Then I'd spend another few thousand $$$ on a boutique amp (Carr/Matchless/Bad Cat) and invest the rest.

I'd build a studio into our house plans (we're about to start building in two weeks). With the Bad Catt Cub IIR I have coming...I'm really happy with my gear.

Forgot Gretsch. Would probably throw one or two of those in there as well.

For the fun of the game:

I'd buy a tweed Fender Deluxe amp from the late '50s and then take the rest of the money and hunt for a deal on a late '50s Telecaster. Thats it. Nothing more

I'd buy a ton of gear and flip it. Put around 55k into the mortgage and probably keep my favorite offbeat guitar.

I didn't think about that angle. The way I operate on flipping I should be able to turn $50K into $100K...I'm just not sure how long it would take me.

Can I invest it in a retirement plan? Perhaps I should convert a bit of it into gold and put the rest in my 401k.

same here, or 150k, but I am also assuming the markets are down, I dont know how to turn a great profit in beaverton, and I like cool fancy toys.

I have records of my gear's net cost. I am about 6k to the good plus a ton of toys, so far. Wait, 14k to the good. I paid 8k of tuition to Biola by gear flipping.

And turning a 20% profit is the sort of stuff I can do in a couple afternoons.

I'd get a '59 Les Paul Reissue, a '58 ES-335 Reissue, an Eric Clapton Custom Shop Sig Strat, and a Custom Shop Relic'd Tele.
