but yeah it's personal taste, i really like the retro look | The issue is that since the screws will be anchored in wood, the more you remove them, the more likely that the holes will strip out and not hold the cover securely.
Also, I don't know who you talk to, but when I was playing a lot on one main bass, I was going through a set of strings a month, if not more often. Now I'm not playing nearly as much, and I spread it out over a few basses, but I still try to swap out strings once they loose that new string "zing". |

| I don't like the sound of new strings. I like the warm sound of old used strings. Until they go flat and can't be tuned I usually leave them on the guitar. I have never changed the strings on a bass just for the sake of changing strings. I have been playing bass for about 4 or 5 years now and never changed strings due to age or being bad strings.
I like the looks of bridge covers and I even use them to rest my hand on at times. I had a bass once the had bad holes for the screws and I put toothpicks in them and then the screws fit snuggly. Problem solved. |

| I like bridge covers! [SIZE="3"]Consider this -
I made my own bridge cover with a small piece of plexiglass, heated and bent once in a 90 degree angle, painted black and attached with velcro.
No massive "ashtray" - just a visual cover for the unattractive bridge - I don't feel that the workings of the bridge add anything so I covered it up on my "Tuxedo" - my Ibanez 4- string bass.[
I'm very much into the visual
I did it on my Thunderbird Pro, too.

P.S.: I'll attempt to post a picture, but I'm new.

| Serious? I'm as serious as a Low "B"!
...and not just paint it blue, but carry on the diagonal stripes theme you have on the pickguard.
By the way, I really like the look of the bass with the blue/stripes pickguard. Nice job.

Mookev | yeah i totally was thinking that, it would be a cool matchup, but i think steve is sending one my way now, so i think i'll like the vintage chrome better, but who knows lol.
btw thanks the idea just popped into my head one day and i had to make it a reality or i would have gone crazy wondering what it would look like... i originally did that so it would look different and wait till i could buy a new pick guard, but now i don't even want a new one, i'm just gonna keep this one exactly how it is. i've even painted my external hard drive to match LOL |

You're a bit like me in that you're not skeered to take something apart, modify, paint and THEN decide if you want to keep it. A lot of folks play "stock" equipment, and that's OK, but I have to personalize my stuff - sounds like you do too. Most people will think you're crazy for messing with things, but you and I are masters of our stuff, yes?
I bought a new Thunderbird Pro a couple months ago and I IMMEDIATELY took it apart and did some re-paint and re-baging. I'll post a pic soon.
Nice talking to you. You and I play the same music, too.

Mookev | DUDE all of the guitars i have i have either built, or taken apart and replaced all kinds of stuff. look at my jemcaster thread lol.... i have to take it apart to see how easy it is to do it haha... and i'm not affraid to do it because i know how to fix it if and when i break something, like on the bass, the first time i re-mounted the guard i had the jack in kind of weird and when i plugged it in it broke the jack clean off, so i took the jack out of my ibanez, and put it in the bass, soldered the jack that came from the bass back together, and put it in the ibanez since i don't use it that much and it works fine LOL |
