| Xbox 360 or PS3? Yes, another one of those threads.... lol.
If you were getting one or the other for your birthday, and you had to pick by Friday, which would you choose? Regardless of price?
I am torn. I have always wanted one of these, and never made up my mind about which one to get. Now the opportunity has presented itself to where I can get one of these for my birthday, and I can't decide which one. I traditionally have never been a big video game guy, but I always liked playing sports games whenever I could, as well as some shooters.
Specifically I'm looking at an Xbox 360 with a good hard drive, a controller, and a headset for like $300 , and a PS3 with a 160GB hard drive and a controller for the same price.
I am leaning towards the PS3 because of the whole Blu-ray thing, which would be cool. I eventually want to get a flat screen high def TV (they're getting cheaper every year) so I think it would be sweet. Also liking the possibility of netflix on the PS3... don't know if Xbox can do that or not. I have played the xbox 360 before, and it was alright. Nothing about it blew me away. Never played the PS3.
Help me decide plz.
PS I don't care about kinect or move.

| buy a stand alone bluray player. I don'tk now if you've seen the current scandal with the PS3 but multiplayer is offline and has been for ~2 weeks, and all the PSN accounts were compromised giving Name, Address, Phone #, Credit Card Info, as well as PSN username/password to unknown parties.
Aside from the fact that there aren't any compelling PS3 only games for me- the fact that Sony is so careless as to store credit cards in plain text, much less on a publicly facing server is just irresponsible and reckless, and neither are attributes that makes me want to rush to give them money.
My buddy has an original sony BRD player that cost him a fortune. The ps3 is definitely better, but the two of us can't tell a difference between the ps3 and my $99 magnavox in terms of disc load speed or video quality.
Netflix works on both platforms, and the xbox also has the ability to use amazon streaming as well. |

It is in a completely separate and secured environment."
Of course it is a big problem but not something I'd take into consideration considering the lifespan of the console (supposedly on a 10 year cycle, which is believable considering the continued steady sales and software support of the PS2).

| Well, I got a 360 and love it, but it seems to me that many of the games for the Xbox are pretty weird/dark games with unnecessary violence and crap. I mean you get some excellent games, don't get me wrong, and I really love the controller set-up over the PS3. But the PS3 has a much better game selection, at least up in Canada. I like the fact you can get games that are more along my personal taste with the PS3 anyway, but that differs greatly person to person.
That's my dilemma with systems anyway; I know many people have no problem playing harsher games and I am not going to judge them, I believe it comes down to Christian liberty. However, for me I try to stay away from it because it affects the way I think over time, slowly wearing away at my moral conscience and giving Satan a foothold.

| Just a note on Netflix on the Xbox 360: It's totally doable, but it requires a Gold Xbox Live subscription. |

It comes down to three things:
1. Exclusive titles. Which system has the exclusives you like better?
2. BluRay. Do you care that much?
3. Online experience.
As for Online experience, I've often heard that it is much better on XBox Live than PSN in general, but my main thought is, what do your friends have? If you are going to play games online, you'll want to play with your friends, and the networks are not compatible. Way more of my friends have XBL, and it makes my gaming experience a lot better. |

I don't know why Microsoft won't allow that too but I'm guessing it has something to do with the architecture/purposes of XBL.

If you want to play on the PSN immediately when you get your console on Friday, you may be out of luck. Current issues aside, I really like my PS3 and its a well rounded media and gaming machine, and links quite fluidly with my computer.

Being the gargantuan corporation that they are, Microsoft has to have their own service, even if it's inferior to the already established Steam. Quote:

I love the Xbox exclusives. Wi-Fi used to be a factor but the new ones have that (built-in).

When you call anything with harsh vocals "screamo", it makes as much sense as calling anything with distorted guitar "heavy metal". |

PS3 exclusives (according to wikipedia) that I'm interested in
Gran Turismo
Killzone 3
MLB 11: The Show
Resistance 3 maybe...
SOCOM 4 maybe...
Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy
XBox 360 exclusives (according to wikipedia) that I'm interested in
Gears of War 3 maybe...
Wouldn't mind Halo 3 or reach but don't really care that much about it
2. BluRay.... don't really care that much. I mean, I hate my DVD player right now because it's super old and makes the voices much softer than the music/action and there are no audio settings that can fix it. It sucks. So I would like a new DVD player anyway, and it might as well be able to play BluRays too. XBox 360 plays DVDs too though I guess.
3. Online experience... Since I've never been a gamer I never played video games with my friends. I think most of my friends today probably don't even play video games. I don't know how the whole online thing works. All I know about it is that when you play video games online you get shot a lot faster. I don't think I would pay money for an XBox 360 live subscription... but maybe I would like it if I did. Hmmmmmm.... is the point of online play that you get to play with your friends, or is it also to extend the playability of the game itself? I remember playing Call of Duty a long time ago, it was either the first or second version of that game, and once you beat the actual game (which was pretty fast) the only reason to have the game was to play online, and when I did play online I just got killed really fast. I mean I don't want to spend $50.00 on a game and then beat it in 2 days, never to play it again... I'm so confused, lol.

| Not sure how much it'll help, but all of the Splinter Cells are playable on the Xbox unless something's changed recently .
Online play does vastly open up the gameplay for most games, too. Call of Duty does have some pretty good SP and split-screen single-console play, but the online play is one of the best parts, hands down. You die quickly, but, if you stick around a little while, it's a blast! (No pun intended ) |

| I decided to go with the PS3 but I looked in several stores yesterday and couldn't find a sweet deal on a bundle as advertised online. I know there is a killzone 3 bundle and a tiger woods game bundle too for the same price as a PS3 by itself, I just can't find any of them.

There's also an Uncharted 2 bundle. That's one of the best games this generation, IMO.
