Strat, pedals, Princeton Reverb II (22W tube). The amp's on 4 out of 10 and it has the foam donut so it spreads the sound evenly around the rest of the band area.... and it's miked and into the PA. Floor monitors (only the drummer needs my guitar in a monitor).

I've enjoyed this thread but I think it would be more useful with an idea of the setup and building and/or congregation size. Mine is a 400-seater Victorian church building with a horsehoe balcony, 6 or 7 piece band, drums behind a screen, congregation varies from 250 to 400.

I do both...it depends on my mood.

I'm a youth pastor, and I also play guitar in the main worship service. One setup is my pedals through my *new* Blackstar HT-20.

The other setup is guitar straight into my Pod XTL into the system.

I like the convenience of the xtl, I like the more organic feel of the limits of fixed pedals...It really comes down to what I took home last, and what is easiest/quickest to set up.

Amps all the way! As long as you can control the volume. We have iso rooms so I can push the amps hard without being too overpowering. My pedal system allows me switch between up to five separate tube amps which usually ends up being a couple Marshall plexi's, and Vox ac30 for dirty tones and a 1967 Twin Reverb and 1967 bassman for clean tones.

I like using an amp more as a monitor, so a small one is good for me. Also the worship space is so lively that it doesn't take much. A small one with a mic in front works for me. I'm actually looking at an effects pedal that could be sent straight to the board with a send my amp. Something like a POD HD or Boss ME series.

I normally go in through a DI and sometimes have an amp as a monitor (The amp doesn't go into the board) in addition to the regular monitors.

I play bass more often than guitar, but did this with guitar as well.

After the last week or two of playing at church, I don't think I could ever lose my amp again. We re-installed the acoustics drums, so I get to crank my BJ up a little louder to overcome them, and I'm in tonal bliss

I use a digitech gnx 2 straight to the board, and use an avioms to monitor. It sounds no different than me using it through our mesa amp, so to help with stage volume I use the direct route. It's a preference thing and it really depends on the acoustics of your room.

Two ways... depends on the mood...

1 - Pedalboard & Amp (off-stage with mic)

2 - Soundcard & Laptop (amplitube and midi footcontroller)

Current, i'm using option one.
(we use in-ears monitoring).

cheers,
emanuel

I saw the Planetshakers recently and the main guitar (Gibson) went into an AC30 - BUT - he had turned the AC30 around to face behind him away from the stage front. So in the crowd you could see the back of the amp - the front of the amp was facing some curtains so I guess this was an attempt to keep the right od levels but reduce the on stage volume for the others? Nice trick and really good guitarist.
Anyways food for thought.
