According to Epiphone, the original finish is a polyurethane. And Epi doesn't sell paint.

try buffing it out, start with a really fine grit sand paper, don't go crazy with it,then progressively goto an ultra fine grit,or find some super glossy nail polish and touch it up lightly, but like every1 else here,I have "character" marks on my guitars too,my fender strat has a crease banged into the back of its neck, and I can feel it,but reminds me to not be in a hurry and properly support my guitar, lolz. So unless it's really really bad,I wouldn't sweat it.

I think its catalyzed poly, which is fairly difficult to get in the consumer market in small quantities. If I recall correctly, the only places where, when it was important to my job to get it, were either motor sport shops, (some auto stores did carry it, as did some boat.) It is not easy to legally get shipped to you.

It is not safe to work with, (really, really bad for the lungs) but if you do get it in there right, you should be able to sand and buff it to where it is virtually invisible. Black epoxy would also likely work if you can find it. That would probably be easier.
