I'm actually really depressed by it all, but that's because I see the Conservatives potentially winning a majority, and that scares the daylights out of me.
This (Stephen Harper) is a man who has installed a young-earth Creationist as our science minister (if you believe the earth is 6000 years old you have no business being in government, let alone a science minister), been found in contempt of Parliament (think 'contempt of court' except for the legislature, it's an actual formal charge) twice for two separate issues, and feels that he can basically cancel (prorogue) our legislature whenever the bloody heck he feels like it. His 'tough on crime' agenda will see overcrowded prisons full of kids whose only crime was smoking a joint. But that's okay, because he intends to rectify that situation by building MORE prisons, when our national crime rate is actually decreasing.
And he's spending
42 million of taxpayer money on building a bloody dome on Parliament hill.
This guy takes his cues from his Republican religious-Right buddies to the south. It's no wonder we've got the issues we do.
I'm a member of the Liberal Party of Canada and intend to vote as such, and I'm volunteering on the campaign of one of the Liberal MP's in my city. The Tories are destroying the Canada I love and I'll not let it go down without a fight.
