Almost every guitar I've bought has been off the internet...whether its a discussion forum or ebay.

My most recent guitar was a Gibson DC standard from Ebay for $650

From Gibson

I've purchased only one guitar off of the internet so far: a '04 Godin Freeway Classic and I did so because I trust the brand and their reputation and the seller offered a no nonsense 100% return/refund policy.
The guitar was better than I expected.
Still, and maybe based on my experience with my local stores, I'd rather play first and then purchase.

Epi LP Ultra II

The Epi Ultra guitars are really nice. I picked mine up off of Craigslist for 500 with a TKL case. The guitar was a year old and lightly played. I've been using it at church. The Ultra II has a Shadow Nanomag acoustic pickup. It's a chambered mahogany body with a maple set neck. Grover Tuners and it's made in Korea not China. The pickups are reasonably hot.

I like the versatility of it. I can use the same guitar for electric soloing and leads and I can switch to a completely acoustic sound. I can even route the acoustic pickup directly to an acoustic amp or mixing board because it has stereo jacks. The fit and finish and playability are really good. The other members in the band and a handful of other guitar players that have picked it up have been impressed with it. I get a lot of complements on how good it sounds.

I have yet to try one of the Ultra IIs out, but I want to and your review is reminding me to do that soon.
