Active Fuel Management/Displacement on Demand is only good for less than an 8% boost in economy. Seems to me that one would have to seriously hypermile it to get anywhere near 25mpg in one of those pigs and never in the winter months when the fuel formula changes. | well regardless... I can drive it for a month and then decide whether to keep it or sell it... the idea of selling it and getting a nice subaru is very intriguing.

| Do you have more info on it, such as WHY did the engine go south?
I'd be suspicious of any other drive-train damage, too.
I mean, this Trailblazer might be a great vehicle once the issues are corrected, but it may have more issues than you know.
Beware the rolling money pit. |

Beware the rolling money pit. | he got the oil changed at some shop and they used bad oil or something. next day he was gunning the accelerator for some reason and BOOM. that's all I know.
I did talk to my dad about it and now he is leaning towards selling it for like 12-13k. that way they could still buy me a car and they could throw some money in the bank.

| well we dont know if this whole deal is going to work out, but we decided that if it does we will be flipping it for a profit so I can get something more practical. What I am currently hoping to get is a first gen Subaru Forester S. I definitely want a stickshift and I'm hoping for one w. leather seats and/or a sunroof.
anywho... does anyone know how long those usually last? any specific issues to watch out for?

You can check out the Subaru Forester forum for more info from owners with more experience than I: Subaru Forester Owners Forum
As far as how long they'll last, that depends on the car and it's maintenance, but I hear that they'll typically go 200k+ miles when they're treated well. We test drove an '01 S right before we bought our '04 X and w/ 112k miles on the odometer it was as tight as a drum and I was ready to buy it, but my wife wanted something with a lot less miles on it. |

I'm not gunna jump on the first thing I see tho. over the next month or so I'm gunna be searching Craigslist adds for all the areas within 100 miles of me lookin for the right deal.

If it's a 2+ owner and been treated like the average used car, beware. |
