Best and Worst Cookbook you own*

*You're not allowed to say Allrecipes.

Alright, best... I'm gonna say "Jamie at Home" simple, awesome recipes, just fancy enough to feature at a dinner party. Last year my wife and I planned our garden around a lot of the veggies in the book and cooked all summer and fall from it... awesome. A close second is Mark Bittman's Food Matters cookbook.

Worst?

Rachael Ray's Look and Cook. I know there's a reason this lady is famous, but her recipes aren't it. We got this cookbook as a gift - I was expecting simple, trashy comfort food and I got oversized, flavorless meals. Yech. I've tried a half dozen recipes, all duds. Say hello to the second-hand store. Rach.

Best can mean so many things.

The one I would least like to part with is 660 curries by Rhagavan Iyer. Not only are the recipes foolproof and delicious, it's a kind of food I would have a hard time finding other good resources for.

But, the one that excites me the most is Amor y Tacos by Deborah Schneider. I've read it in bed, just for entertainment.

Worst? I don't buy bad cookbooks. The one I use the least is probably Some Like It Hot by Clifford A Wright. The food is good, but not everyone likes spicy and the recipes are often authentic to the point of being hard to cook or just plain weird.

I don't really like cookbooks. I do like Jaques Pepin's "Complete Techniques" because it's like having an encyclopedia for every classical cooking technique you can imagine at your fingertips.

I love the Williams-Sonoma cookbooks. Beautiful pictures with each recipe. I also really enjoy reading Alton Brown's books. Not so much for the recipes but for the commentary.

I have a lot of cookbooks that I don't like. If it's just a collection of typed words I usually don't feel inspired to try any of the recipes.

I also have some cookbooks from the 1920's and 1930's that are very fun.
