Picking question

Hey guys long time no see . I don't really know what the technique is called hence why I haven't been able to google it but here is a tab which shows it.

||------------------|-------------------|
||o-----------------|-------------------|
||------------------|-------------------|
||------------------|-------------------|
||o-7-------7---7-9-|-10-----------10-9-|
||----0-0-0---0-----|----0-0-0-8-0------|

What I'm wondering is if your supposed to alternate pick it? Because I can't play it fast enough down picking it even though I heard someone say it sounds better if you do.

Unless specified otherwise, generally it doesn't matter. Typically you get a more driven sound with down strokes.

Ahk thanks for that I just wasn't sure if I was doing it all wrong. And another thing. One of my mates gave me a secondhand guitar. It's a Martinez Les Paul. Have any of yous ever heard anything about them? I did a bit of a search but I couldn't find anything.

I believe I've played an acoustic or two of theirs, and I was fairly impressed.

Either way, you get what you pay for. I got a Behringer El Toro (Strat style) off a mate of mine at Church (for free) and I ended up using it for my major music performance at the end of high school.

Either it works good or it doesn't. Can't complain either way. So long as you're happy with it.

you can do it with down picks just takes a lil more speed but if you ask me i would play it like this

||o-7--------7---7-9-10--------------10-9-|
||-----0-0-0---0----------0-0-0-8-0--------|
||---du-d-ud-u-d-u-d--u-d-u-d-u-d-u---|

i assume the opens are palm muted i play alot of hardcore music this type of alternate picking is used quite a bit, if you can get used to picking like that you will be able to fly through faster tempo riffs and start skipping strings while alternating

Yeah I'm not complaining about it. I think it's great! Granted I haven't played many expensive guitars but it feels good to me. And thanks Ryan I'll practice that and see which way I find easier.
