Bible App

Hey, so I'm looking for a good bible app (preferably free) for my iPod touch, one that can jump to greek definitions. Like, I want to be able to click & hold a word that I'm reading (or a similar finger gesture), and have it give me a link to the greek definition. I don't want to be given a reference number, open another pane (or app), and paste something in, or anything of the kind. I want a quick and dirty link to the definition for ease of use. Oh, and it needs to all be available offline. Logos was looking really nice til I realized that you need to purchase the base package.... :/ Accordance looks nice too, but when you click on a word, it just gives you the greek and makes you look it up elsewhere...

That is a whole lot to want out of a free app. If you find it, let me know.

Available offline is probably the biggest problem you will run into.

Not to mention the questionable value of looking up words in a language you don't understand. Context is everything in language. If you don't understand the language, knowing the definition of a single word will probably just lead to confusion.

I'm willing to pay a little bit, just not too much. What is annoying is that many of these apps have some form of greek dictionary or concordance in them, but either it's not available offline or it's clumsy to navigate to from the text.

Don't have iPhone or touch but what about Pocketsword, it's based on SWORD library backend. So there's lots of bibles and commentaries.

YouVersion is pretty good (though I'm not sure about Greek definitions).

Speaking of YouVersion, as a side note, while numerous translations (such as NKJV) are available offline currently, there are many that aren't.

Starting friday I think it is, they've worked something out with Zondervan to give away offline versions of the NIV for a few days. There are details on their site.

It's the only one I use anymore, and it's nice on both iOS devices & android. Not sure if there's a WP7 version yet.

I find the ESV Bible by Crossway is my goto Bible on my iPod touch. Not sure exactly why, but I just like the UI better. If I need to use different translations or Greek (just a Greek translation, not the features the OP was asking for) I use PocketSword. I also have YouVersion, but I find I don't use it much. If they do make the NIV available offline that might give me more reason to use it.

I went on an offline download spree with YouVersion...

I've now downloaded:

ASV (American Standard Version)
AMP (Amplified Bible)
NIV (NIV 2010 edition)
NASB (New American Standard Bible)
NKJV (New King James Version)
NLT (New Living Translation)
MSG (The Message)

I mostly use NASB/NIV for myself, and NKJV at church since I go to a calvary chapel, and that's like the defacto standard version there.

How did you download NIV84? I thought only the NIV 2010 was available for offline use (just double checked on my iPod)?
