sloppy wet, or unforseen

so my friend and i were haveing a debate over lyrics the other day.
this is the stand

the song is how he loves

danny-John Mark McMillan/ heaven meets earth like a sloppy wet kiss.

me-david crowder/ heaven meets earth like an unforseen kiss.

my stance is the dave crowder version, maybe it's because it's how i first heard it, or maybe i don't think john's version is church appropriate, i don't know i just like the crowder version better

what is your take and why

Here's six pages on this topic:

http://www.christianguitar.org/forums/t181313/

I like the song both ways. After hearing John Mark's reasoning behind the lyrics, I really enjoy the line. It would never fly in my church though. So I sing "unforseen" as opposed to "sloppy wet".

My take is that people care way too much.

I always use sloppy wet, but its not a huge deal to me either way. I don't really understand why people have such a big problem with it. I actually think it is pretty powerful imagery.

John's version wasn't meant to be used in a church setting. In that aspect, the terms "Sloppy wet kiss" was more of an intimate thing between him and God.
David crowder realized it could be used in a church setting, but that "Sloppy wet kiss" might not be the best way to go. So he replaced it with "Unforeseen kiss."
I really don't know why there is so much debate over this in the Christian church. Both version are just as true to God's love.

I like both but I think people strugle with the whole God and the word "sloppy" thing. I do the "unforseen" version at my pastors humble request. I wonder though about the father in the prodigal son story. I'll bet that was a sloppy wet kiss!

I heard it done by Kim Walker and Jesus Culture... They said sloppy wet kiss... However,my Mom complains when we play that in Church, saying that she can get deeply into worship, and then get rudely pulled out by hearing the "Sloppy Wet Kiss" part sung lol It just doesn't seem to fit very well in a worship song lol

I dislike both lines.

My reasoning is bizarre though. When I think sloppy wet, I don't get a picture of romance, I think of something more akin to a puppy licking my face. Or maybe my little niece's pb & J covered smooches on the cheek. Maybe I just think of sloppy more slovenly than some of you all.

And heaven meeting earth is not unforseen, nor does it seem like a lick from a puppy...

To me it isn't a matter of church appropriateness, but silly sounding lyrics likely to make me visibly laugh.

I never thought of a puppy but the thought of my 90 pound lab running it's tongue from my ear lobe to my eye brow crossed my mind. That was quickly contrasted by the thought of face sucking.

I never viewed "unforseen" in the context as you described. To me the words "like a" seperate two ideas. I interpreted it as "the meeting of Heaven and Earth brings the same thrill as recieving and unexpected kiss'. I never took it that the meeting was unexpected.

Either one works for me, but I don't think Crowder's version holds a candle to John Mark's. It's like someone took a great song and put it in the "CCM Machine" and Crowder's version is what came out. I don't dislike that he redid it though. I think it's gotten a lot more people to look into John Mark's stuff which is great.

Crowder's version is probably my least favorite rendition of the song I've heard (particularly the studio version). The studio polish doesn't fit the song and weakens the dynamics. Likewise, his vocals don't have the grit and passion of McMillians version or the raw power of Kim Walker and Jeremy Riddles versions.

At first I thought this thread was a joke... so I voted for sloppy wet. Then I realized it's serious and I have to say that sloppy wet kiss just is not a good lyric. Bad visuals.
