| Picks:
Clayton Ultem Standard .80 and JustStrings.com Flat Pick .71 for just about everything, but when I play Big Band/Swing stuff I'll use the thickest pick I can find.
Straps:
I kind of dig those cheap Ernie ball straps. I mean, they'll go from up to your chin to down to your knees in a snap. I also have one of those Fender "Vintage" style straps that I kind of like. But I've been know to use an old tie or a little bit of rope if needed....
Strings:
The standards are Elixer lights on the electrics and Elixer Custom Lights on the acoustics but I do have a couple of odd ball ones that get different ones.
Teisco: Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky
SX Django Guitar: Martin Silk & Steel

| For picks, I use Cool Juratex 1mm jazz picks almost exclusively, but I'll use anything nearby if that's all that there is. In fact, I have a cup of picks that includes a lot of oddities and even some that are several decades old, just 'cause...but the Cool picks are choice #1.
My strings of choice are D'Addario XL115 .011 to .049 for my electrics and Martin SP .011 - .052 for my acoustics. I'm not quite sure what we use on the nylon string axes, but they're probably a medium tension.
Bass strings are also D'Addario, but I may switch to Elixers soon.
Straps...I have a dozen or so Ernie Ball nylon straps in many different colors, all loaded w/ Schaller strap lock ends. We have a couple other random straps, too, but they sit in a spare parts bin. |

During the sermon it needed reinforcing. I even threw my strap locks from the dead strap in it for the services. It was way too slick and uncomfortable to use much or I would have kept it. It also had a little electrical and packing tape on it as well, just made out of found bits in a church closet.
I used hemp rope once, but it left a pretty gnarly burn on my neck and shoulder.
Though for me, experimenting with guitars and amps has changed my sound a bit at most. Changing picks, strings, and straps seems to make me change up my technique and some seem to help and some seem to hinder.
I am also always intrigued by new picks. Heck, you never know if that $.25 you spent on a new pick somebody recommended might really help you out and at worst, hey, you are out a quarter.

| I really like the EBE 'pik', at least the glow in the dark alienhead. It's somewhat like a medium, but a lot more flexible, so you kind of straddle the medium/thin range in a sense. I love it with the acoustic. EBE Universal, Inc. - Home of the original Alien Face Guitar Pick Hard to find anymore, you can't get 'em at GC anymore, at least when I've been in.
As for strings, both the 6 string & 12 get elixir polywebs. I hate, hate, hate the nanoweb strings. I don't find them to last longer than normal strings, squeak less, or any of the other usual elixir positives. They are also ridiculously bright, and still just as expensive as normal elixirs. fail. Polywebs are heaven, especially for the 12 string, when it comes to my ears. I find 'em a little bit darker and richer, which is a plus.
My knock around ibanez parlor has a set of d'addario's on it right now, but I can't remember if they're the phosphor bronze or the bronze bluegrass. I think I'm running fairly light on that, maybe even 11's. It's nice to have a light strung acoustic for messing around with for long periods of time without getting tired IMO.
For other gear that I won't leave home without?

| Strings: D'Addario XL110's ..... Forever. They are bright as a new nickel and sound great. Pick: Dunlop Nylon 1.0 mm. They are just right. Stiff enough to dig in when I want, or choke up for pinch harmonics, and have a super grip for when I hold them gently for soft arpeggio's. Strap: I used to use a nice Levy's suede but needed another inch or two lower so had to get a black nylon strap that I like alot. It moves easily which I like and doesn't stretch, giving my guitar a more solid height. |

| I really like the fell, tone, and life span of elixir 10's, also love the fell and tone of Ernie ball slinky 10's but they only last about ten days for me, where Elixirs can last months!
Picks I have been using the green dunlop tortex since I was 12 (28 now) not sure why I started with those, I did like ninja turtles alot back then Been thinking I should try and change that, tried a few times, not happening!
Straps, cheap little black ones, EB, whatever! |
