crunchlab/liquifire or bkp aftermath set

I think I know what I'm going to do here, so i guess the point of this is to ask, in my shoes, which way would you go.

I can buy a set of BKP Aftermaths for around 400 bucks, and get my uncle, who has soldering equipment, to help me install them for free.

For 2/3 that I could by the DiMarzio set, and get them installed by a tech and have the guitar set up.

Both sets have qualities that make them outstanding pickups, and perfect for the sounds I like. Cosmetically, the BKP set wins, just for the custom cover options. Whichever set I get, its going into my ibanez rg7321.

I'm probably going to go the DiMarzio route, just because its more economical at this point. But I still have another guitar that needs pickups, so I could still get BKP's for that one.

Thoughts? Comments? Recriminations?

Thought I'd update this thread.

I found a BKP dealer in Boston and worked out a deal with him. Hopefully in about 2 weeks they ought to be here.

These are going into an RG7321 replacing the stock pups. Pics and vid when I get em'.

Just FWIW, do not have your uncle use a soldering gun on the pickups.

Heh, yeah... I rethought that part of the plan.

I took my Gryphon to a local shop to be set up, and they said that when I was ready they could do the installation.

You considered learning to do it yourself?

The thought has crossed my mind. But I'd rather not experiment on these.

I've thought about butchering my old squire for this purpose though.

Learn to solder on some wire.

It really is not hard at all.

Heat wires, put in a bit of solder, the solder goes in via capillary action, remove iron, done.

Perhaps in a month or 2 when Im ready to replace the pups in my Gryphon Ill give it a try.

I really do doubt my ability to do any kind of work with my hands though. I much prefer to trust this kind of thing with people who know what their doing.
