I get loads of cardboard from whitegoods stores and make up my own boxes. I've shipped to the US and all over europe from here (ireland) and never had a problem.

as for stores with compactors, they'll crush most trash, but heavy cardboad just laught in the face of compaction!!

If a store says no, I go next door. no biggie

I've NEVER bought a box!!

Good thing you still had that old box! For what it's worth, my guitar company (Halo) uses U-LINE FOL (Full Overlap) Guitar Shipping Cartons for shipments in the USA and worldwide. They're affordable, strong, and the right dimensions!
