7-5 lands you a 2 million dollar deal at pitcher friendly Petco where you'll go 14-7 the next season.

Ahh but Ohlendorf had 21 starts so that's 9 NDs and he posted a 4.07 era and a 1.79 K to BB, which is pretty crappy.

4.07 means the majority of his starts where "Quality Starts", lol.

4.07 is not that bad in the grand scheme of things. Good enough to win more than one game. Win-Loss is extremely overrated for pitchers. He played for a terrible team and wasn't great. Therefore, his record was terrible. *shrug*

No, but posting 1-11, 4.07, and a 1.79 K/BB isn't a $2M salary season.

The way things are in baseball now it is. Your favorite Brave Kawakami got $7.3 mil for last season.

I think regardless of what his record is, his era is solid. Literally, the average era in baseball was 4.07 last year, so you can't really say 4.07 is bad. And the Pirates are a terrible team, and they were the second worse fielding team in terms of fielding percentage. Likewise, the Padres are 2nd best in terms of fielding percentage. Not that these are direct correlations of how good a team is at fielding, but one could certainly argue that teams with better fielding percentages make plays that other teams don't, which should help his era. That and a good ballpark should give Olendorf a lot more success in San Diego, and his success will deem his 2mil contract worthy (which really doesn't seem like that much).

He's not coming to San Diego. I'm just saying guys like that tend to do well here.

Ohhh, haha. Well, of Pittsburgh's pitchers that frequently started, he had their highest era, so I think he is worth 2 mil. Anyway, 2 mil isn't a hefty amount of money, its not like they just signed a guy for 12 mil a year who could be a bust.

Ugh, don't bring that up again. Talk about deals that do NOT work out. And the Japanese teams want him back, we'd give him up, but he wont go back. He thinks people still want him here!

So Wainwright might need Tommy John surgery, which would be terrible news for the Cardinals. And as far as I know, Pujols hasn't signed with the Cards either. Anybody else hear anything about him lately? I haven't found any new news on him anyway, would hate to see him leave (although I'd love to see him on the Jays).

The negotiations are over for the season for Pujols, wont talk until after the season is over, where I predict he'll go to the Cubs. The Jays aren't really in a position to pick up a 300 million dollar contract, which is what he's looking for. I wouldn't count them completely out, but it's a stretch to see them being able to pick up that kind of contract.

As far as Wainwright goes, it's not that he "might" need Tommy John, it's that he "likely" needs Tommy John, and when a team announces the word "likely" that means they've had one doctor determine he needs it and they're getting a second opinion.

It really sucks for the Cards. He is one of the best pitchers in the game right now, and it definitely leaves a major void.

The good news is that recovery from Tommy John is pretty good these days. For example, Brian Wilson had it a few years back.
