Great combo the tele and matchless

.

From right to left looks like a Boss TU-2, some boost pedal, Line 6 MM4? (looks too small to me), Line 6 DL4 - probably more after this.

There are more he reportedly uses such as BD-2, VP, EQ, Boss metal zone and I'm sure there's rack mounted stuff as well.

Not much out there really.

Definitely some wonderful tones mentioned. I have to say-I really like ZZ Top's tone as well...nothing really beats that raunchy, chunky blues tone comin out of those funky guitars he plays .

A couple of my favorite live guitarists tones are:

Steve Morse with the Dixie Dregs
Steve Lukather with Toto on the FIB tour (saw them on the front and back end)
Keith Howland from Chicago

I've been impressed with Needtobreathe's live tone each time I've seen them. They used several different guitars the last time, but I know Bear was playing mostly Tele's through 3 pedals (a nameless OD, a Boss trem, and a TU-2) and a Dr. Z. Bo used mostly Tele's through a much larger board and what looked like a blackface Fender combo.
Steve Mason from Jars of Clay. Tele, pedalboard that I couldn't see, and a Fender head. I assume there was a cab somewhere, but it wasn't visible.

The Chris Quilala tone is great. Mine would have to be a lot of the new Newsboys tones that Jody Davis has come up with. The next would be Jonny Buckland's early stuff like "Yellow" with Coldplay.

Buddy Whittington with John Mayall's band (Strat into a Dr.Z with some kind of attenuator... Hotplate?

Mark Knopfler, 2 different gigs (not Dire Straits), too many guitars and sounds to list

Mark Goldenberg with Jackson Browne's band, again a wide range of sounds

Dave Kelly, a couple of times in the Blues Band and once with another outfit, mostly slide

Clapton, Cream, 1968.
Jimi, JHE, 1968.
Whoever plays guitar for Matisyahu, maybe in 2005, don't remember exactly. Looked like he was using an Epiphone Riviera with humbuckers through an AC30 and enough delay to fatten it up.
Santana, the Supernatural release-tour. Wow!
Others that were great (Robben Ford, Tommy Castro, Sean Costello, BB King, Michael Tarbox), but those three are out-front, for me.

Two nameless guys in a no-name band in my home town bar years ago. Both had identical set ups. Gibson SG Standards straight into Vetta II's. No idea what the settings were, but what a sound! One of those sounds you always remember.

I have seen a ton of live shows and a lot of great players. The best tone I've ever heard live is hands down, Warren Haynes. If you've never heard of him, do yourself a favor and look him up on youtube!

I'm currently loving the lead tone in Hillsong Chapels new CD, particularly the track Yahweh.

CLICKY

Just shows what little needs to be done to sound great!

I have a list of Chris Quilala's gear along with many more Christian guitarists at precisepraise.blogspot.com The links to all the gear pages are on the left hand side under gear reveals. The top picture of C.Q.'s board was taken April 14, 2012 in Tampa. He seems to switch out his gear on a regular basis.
