I'm looking to add drums to my list of instruments that I can play, and i'm interested in buying an electric kit to keep the noise down.

Any suggestions? Hopefully keep it below $600.

Hmm...$600 is almost prohibitive for electronic drums. I think at that cost I would advise biting the bullet and buying a budget acoustic kit and a set of muting pads.

I got a nice Yamaha kit used at the local guitar shop for $550. I hate the sound of electric drums but it is a convenient solution for practice in the house. i would never use them live though. I have never heard an electric drum kit that I really liked that didn;t cost under $2000
