I bought a K car...

Long story short...my daughter needed a car.
She's got 2 days of college classes, volunteers at a horse rescue 2 days and just got a job at the local mall. Driving our Caravan around was starting to get expensive, so she needs her own set of wheels.
It had to be fairly safe, reliable, easy to repair, decent looking and cheap...like, less than $2k cheap. So, I went searching craigslist and traderonline.com and found a couple low-mileage older fwd Chryslers not too far away. I'm very familiar with the early fwd DCP cars.
Of the few that we looked at, the best of the bunch was a 1988 Dodge Aries LE: 4 door, 2.5l, 3 speed atx, and enough options to not feel like a dinosaur.
The kicker: 66,000 original miles and $1100.
A little old lady from N.J. had owned it since new, kept it in the garage and drove it to church, etc...

It's in SUPER nice condition. The A/C needs to be charged (no biggie) and I'd like to get a replacement fr headlight bezel as the original was cracked when the old lady bumped into the wall or something, but everything else works great...oh, and it needs new front speakers, but they're already on order.
There's NO rust on this thing (miraculous for a north east car) and very minor scratches. The interior is looks about a year old, but we'll have to redo the headliner soon, as it's starting to drop.

The coolest thing, though, is that my daughter digs it! I mean, it's not a new Shelby Mustang or anything, but she was willing to compromise since we were paying for it.

I love those cars. And I also love sensible paid-for transportation. Nice find.

I drive the FoMoCo version of a K-car: a Mercury Topaz. Mine was my grandmother's and its a 93 with 54k miles. I got it last year and it had 47k.

Your daughter obviously has good character!

Man, $1,100 for only 66,000 miles! That's a pretty good deal there! Hope it gives you many years of good service!

You know what? I was just scanning through this book called "Crap Cars" and - yup - the K Car was in it. The caption said that if the K-Car were a saviour, standards have dropped since Jesus Christ. Ok, well enjoy the car . But seriously, it looks like you got a good deal.

Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.

Yeah, that is one SICK K car!

For now, though, we're going to stick with a basic tune-up, a K&N filter, some KYB GR2s up front and a set of Pyle 3.5" replacement speakers in the dash.
