I used to run my amp clean and relied on a J&H and SD-1 for all gain sounds. But, I got a new amp - the Egnater rebel 30 which has an awesome gain channel IMHO. So far, I've used the clean channel with the wattage turned down so with volume and pick attack I get anywhere from clean to just breaking up. Then, on the gain channel I've used it with gain at about 1 o'clock for a nice modern gain sound. I've used the J side of the J&H as a solo boost. The SD-1 has left the building, at least for now.

This is what I do, pretty much.

I use my Classic 30 dirt channel almost exclusively and work the volume knob and pickup selector. I use an EQ for crunch, and my Boss HM-2 with the drive all the way down for more of a chunky sound.

+1 for clean amp! I want a clean canvas to paint a sonic landscape with my pedals. Right now I have a BD-2 set to mid-gain for the slight overdrive (this ALWAYS stays on)... for solos or heavy parts I layer a TS clone (BBE Green Screamer) on top and let it sing! This all goes into a crystal clear Fender clean channel.

Been strongly considering ditching the BBE/Boss combo for a Fulldrive 2.
