| Herod's manslave speaks confestim autem percussit eum angelus Domini eo quod non dedisset honorem Deo et consumtus a vermibus exspiravit In memorandum, 2005: an allegory
Herod, you fat fool --
you think the people love you
when they listen to your kinky dreams.
You learned young that power means
you own history,
and the vanquished are never afraid
to love the man with an army
of Bible-thumping thugs behind him.
You can stand on your balcony
pretending you are due their adoration,
but they only love you
because you give them food;
and know that, deep down,
that tingle in your belly
ain’t greatness.
