cure for my black heart?

I own a bh5 ministack, and every so often I get some very strange hissing and popping noises out of it.

I've tried using different guitars, and cables, the cab is brand new.

Not sure what else I should be looking at.

Jesus is the only cure for a black heart.

Sorry couldn't help myself. Carry on with the business at hand.

Prolly needs a new tubes, uses a EL84 and voiced through a 12AX7 preamp tube.

Check your preamp tube.

Anything in particular aggravating it?

I'm sure Jesus could fix my amp.

Don't know if this will help in the diagnosis, but the noises are generally accompanied by volume drops and swells.

Edit.

How, and what am i checking for?

Personally, I'd always have a spare set of tubes on hand. I would try first removing the preamp tube, then reseating it.

I just replaced the preamp tube an hour ago. After a 5 minute test it sounded great. No swells, or dips, or pops and hisses.

Thanks for the advice Bill.
