Just caught up on your new Tele purchase, congratz!
Looks like a nice guitar, and like was said before, twang is how a good tele sounds...lol
As for your muddy (lack of clarity/lack of hearing harmonics from the rythm pickup) sound, I'm sure if you remove the metal cover you will hear a difference. If you require a cleaner, brighter tone from that pickup position I suggest you get another pickup. Really nice looking guitar, I hope you enjoy it!!
